It is said that Angarak was the son of Mother Earth and Bharadwaj Rishi. Angarak gain all his knowledge from his father who was a Lord Ganesha’s follower. Even Angarak was a great devotee of Lord Ganesh.

On Magh Krishna Chaturthi which was a Tuesday, Angarak was blessed by Lord Ganesha who also gave him a boon. On which Angarak said that “my only wish was to be associated with Lord Ganesha’s name for forever”. Lord Ganesha was pleased by Angarak and he granted Angarak wish and said that who ever worships Angarak on Magh Krishna Chaturthi all his or her wishes will be granted and from that day Magh Krishna Chaturthi is known as Angarak Chaturthi or Angarika Chaturthi.
