Every year we pay respectful homage to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation on his death anniversary which falls on January 30.
On 30th January 1948, Gandhiji was shot while he was walking to a platform from which he was to address a prayer meeting. The assassin, Nathuram Godse, was a Hindu nationalist with links to the extremist Hindu Mahasabha, who held Gandhi guilty of favouring Pakistan and strongly opposed the doctrine of nonviolence.
Godse shot three bullets into the body of Gandhiji. The idol of non-violence could only gasp, “He Ram!” before slumping on the ground. It was 5.17 pm January 30, 1948.
On his death anniversary, many political leaders and Indian citizens pay homage to Gandhiji at his memorial (or Samādhi) at Raj Ghat in New Delhi.
Employing non-violent civil disobedience, Gandhi led India to independence and inspired movements for non-violence, civil rights and freedom across the world.
On his death anniversary and always lets remember Gandhiji’s ideals and values.
May Mahatma Gandhiji Rest in Peace and Harmony….
