Always before Ganesha Chaturthi people have one question in mind – How to Perform Lord Ganesha Pooja at Home during Ganesha Chaturthi ?
Here we have tried to answer this question is a simple manner.
Things needed for the pooja:
Mukut, Mala / Maitri, Bracelets, Vastra – For Murti, Vastra- To cover Sandli before seating Ganpati Murti, Vastra – To cover Murti while bringing home if brought one day before Chaturthi, Fresh Flowers, Attar (Perfumed Oil) – For Kalash, banana Leaves , Durva, Diya wicks, Prasad (Modaks), Fresh Fruits. A bell, toran for House Main Door, Haar for the Murti, Separated Flowers Haldi, Pinjar, Abhil, Gulal, Ashtagand, Sindhoor, Camphor (kapoor), Dhoop, Aggarbatti, Attar, Shahad (honey), Khadi-Sakhar, Akshata (rice), Foolwati, Kapas, Supaaris, Akrot, Badaam, Khareek, Chandan, Gud, Aarti Sangraha, Rumaal, Matchbox, Paan Leaves, Coconuts, milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar.
Procedure of Pooja of Lord Ganesh :
When the idol of lord Ganesh brought home at first Ganesh Mantra is to be recited :-
vakratunda mahaakaaya soorya koti samaprabha
nirvighnam kuru mein deva sarva kaaryashu sarvadaa
Sound the bell for 5 seconds.
Next step is to invoke or call Ganesha into the idol. This is known as pran-prathishta and lighten an Akhand Jyot (a diva which stay lighten till the Ganesh Idol is at home. It is the signifies the presence of Lord Ganesha) and recite the mantra :-
गणानां तवा गणपतिं हवामहे कविं कवीनामुपमश्रवस्तमम |
जयेष्ठराजं बरह्मणां बरह्मणस पत आ नः षर्ण्वन्नूतिभिः सीद सादनम ||
नि षु सीद गणपते गणेषु तवामाहुर्विप्रतमंकवीनाम |
न रते तवत करियते किं चनारे महामर्कंमघवञ्चित्रमर्च ||
Then welcome the Lord with flowers and water. Then offer milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar water from the kalash. The mixture of all these five items is the Charanamrit. Offer everything with Charanamrit. Dip flowers in the kalash of water and offer to the Lord.
Worship the Idol with a bit of kumkum (sindoor), haldi (turmeric powder), abir (black powder) and a paste made out of sandalwood bar.
Perform The Lord Ganesha Aarti, Jai Ganesh Deva/Jai Dev Jai dev (famous marathi arti) with the traditional Niranjan Lamp (five diva).There is an aarti in hindi as well for those who cannot understand or recite the marathi aarti i.e; Jai Ganesh Deva. This aarti is performed two times a day in the morning and at evening. At the end distribute the prasad to every one.
