In United States, the National Grandparents Day will be celebrated every year since 1979.
On 6th September 1979, a presidential proclamation was passed which made this day official with the first National Grandparents day being celebrated on Sunday, September 9, 1979, (first Sunday of September following Labor Day).
National Grandparents Day has more than one origin. Some people consider it to have been first proposed by Michael Goldgar in the 1970s while some others believe that that day was first proposed by Marian Lucille Herndon McQuade, housewife in West Virginia in the 1970s.
