The United Nations’ (UN) International Day of Peace is celebrated every year on 21st September with an aim to strengthen the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.
The day is also known as World Peace Day or simply Peace Day. The day is also celebrated as a day of ceasefire – personal or political.
The day was established by a United Nations resolution in 1981 to coincide with the year of opening of the General Assembly and the first Peace Day was celebrated in September 1982.
In 2002 the General Assembly officially declared September 21 as the permanent date for the International Day of Peace.

On the International Day of Peace, special activities, events and celebrations will take place all across the world. These activites include private gatherings to public concerts and forums involving large audiences. They may also include Interfaith peace ceremonies, toast for peace, peace choir, lighting candles for peace, peace prayers, tree planting for peace, peace walks, etc.
Symbols of Peace & Peace Day :
The peace dove flying with an olive branch in its beak is one of the most commonly featured symbols for the peace day. In Judaism, Christianity, and Islam a white dove is generally a sign for peace.
