In France, Christmas also known as Noel is a time generally marked by family reunions, gifts and candy for children, gifts for the poor, Midnight Mass, and le Réveillon.
During Christmastime, nearly each and every home in France displays a Nativity scene or crèche, which serves as the focus for the Christmas celebration. On Christmas Eve, children leave their shoes by the fireplace to be filled with gifts from Pere Noel. In the morning they also find that sweets, fruit, nuts and small toys have been hung on the tree.
Other Christmas customs are similar to that followed in other parts of the world like exchange of Christmas gifts and cards, Christmas decorations, Church celebrations, a special meal, Christmas music and caroling, etc.
