Labour Day has its origins in the labour union movement, specifically the eight-hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest.

The Labour Day weekend is the last big travel weekend of the summer, as school open for the year on the day after Labor Day.

The Labour Day holiday in U.S., celebrates worker solidarity. Most workers, public or private, are entitled to take statutory holidays off with regular pay.

Parades, Fireworks and Carnivals are organised on the occasion of Labor Day in many big cities of United States.
