Monkey Day, Monkey Day on December 14

If we go by the name, then this day meant to be celebrated simply by acting like monkeys, but the day actually has a series meaning attached to it i.e., raising the awareness of the theory of evolution, medical research and animal rights.

The holiday which was started in the year 2000 when founder Casey Sorrow jokingly scribbled Monkey Day on a friend’s calendar, and was first celebrated by Lansing residents and art students at Michigan State University, gained notoriety when Casey Sorrow and Eric Millikin’s own comic strip, Fetus-X, began promoting it online along with other cartoonists. Since then, Monkey Day has been celebrated internationally in many countries.

The Monkey Day is mainly celebrated with costume parties intended to help draw attention to issues related to monkeys, including medical research, animal rights, and evolution.

Many times competitions are also held for best money costumes, who can act like a monkey the longest, etc.

Other Monkey Day activities include holiday shopping, eating Ben & Jerry’s Chunky Monkey ice cream, and spending the day at the zoo to learn about animals.

Apart from that, since 2004 there has been an annual Monkey Day Web Comic Marathon taking place.

We recommend you to also have fun on this day by playing pranks on your friends and loved ones. Send them funny Monkey Day SMS and Greetings …
