National Heroes’ Day (Araw ng mga Bayani) is the public holiday in the Philippines which Commemorates all the nation’s heroes throughout history. On this day Filipinos pay homage to the National Heroes of the country.
Araw ng mga Bayani – Philippines National Heroes’ Day is celebrated every year on last Monday of the month of August.
In 2015, Araw ng mga Bayani will be celebrated on 31st August 2015.
The day marks the 1896 Cry of Pugad Lawin by the Katipunan, led by its Supremo Andrés Bonifacio, which began the Philippine Revolution.
The last week of August is of great significance in the history of Philippines. According to historian Teodoro Agoncillo’s Revolt of the Masses, national hero Andres Bonifacio and the Katipunan officially began the war of independence against the Spanish colonial government in late August, 1896.
