Rishi Panchami is celebrated on Sukla Paksha Panchami of Bhadrapada month of Hindi calendar. It is celebrated on the next day of Ganesh Chaturthi.

The tradition of observing Rishi Panchami Vrata is to express respect, gratitude and remembrance of the great deeds of those ancient Rishis, who devoted their life for the welfare of the society.
Rishi Panchami is a day on which women fast and pray to the seven great sages of the country in Hindu Religion. Those sages are Atri, Jamadagni, Vishvamitra, Gautama, Bharadhvaja, Kashyapa and Vashishta.
Rishi Panchami Vrata :
On Rushi Panchami, women keep a strict fast on this day. It is believed that by observing the Rishi Panchami fast devotees get rid of all the sins committed during their life.
Rushi Panchami puja is performed by unmarried and married women. Unmarried women observe Rushi Panchami puja to get rid of the bad effects during their menstrual cycle or period.
In olden days also, women used to fast on this day and visit the Ashrams for blessings of Sants, Acharyas and Rishis and used to serve them by giving some kind of gift or charity for their Ashrams.
On the Rushi Panchami Day, devotees perform bath in holy rivers or wells or sarovaras. Brush their teeth by Aghada’s stick. In evening, women offer the ‘Prasad’ to Gods and wash husbands’ feet.
