Sahyadri Krida Mandal located in Chembur’s Tilak Nagar is also a famous Ganesh Mandal is Mumbai.
This Ganesh Mandal has always been in news for two reasons, its elaborate pandals and its huge funding by underworld don Chhota Rajan — though the organisers deny this.
Started in 1977 in a small-time sports club in Tilak Nagar, Chembur this Mandal shifted the Ganesh Utsav to a nearby municipality ground.
The mandal is well known for its creative decorative sets. Various art directors like Sudhakar Manjarekar, Roderick D’souza and others have decorated the sets over the years.
Gigantic decoration sets like replica of Pune’s historic palace called Shaniwar Wada, Mysore palace and Red fort, and the Bollywood glamour is what brings people to this utsav.
In 2011, a replica of the grand temple-complex Akshardham had been made which attracted lakhs of people each day during the 10 day Ganeshotsav festival.
In 2017, Ganesha Chaturthi will be celebrated on 25th August 2017 and Anant Chaturdashi will be celebrated on 5th September 2017.
